Wednesday August 22, 2007

i started with 'how hard can this really be!' - brought the old red stool out to the back lawn, gave him a neat something to hold and started in the back. it was a number of things - lack of talent, skill, knowledge, bad equipment . . . i knew i'd better stop before i messed things up beyond repair. so the boys and i took off to the beloved downtown barber. for my ego he could not tell i'd done anything - though i told him i had.  kinda fun - men are not used to seeing girls in barber shops. think it took them all for their own trips down memory lane - way back when their sons were his age. i heard - 'he'll be 17 friday.' or ' 'member when you came that little?' and the 11 year old boy is shaking his head - not remembering.

its all good now. he made it look very easy - somehow confirming my 'how hard can it be' theory : ) but no longer is his hair too long. nor is it buzzed off. i like scissor cuts better. and while i thought of all the accomplished women i know who can cut their guys hair - i think my skills might go unmastered and he'll go with his daddy to get haircuts and yellow lollipops. its a guy thing. though this time there was a girl in the barber shop and he sat very still, holding tight to mom's finger.

unlike her brothers, little girly does not seem to mind starbucks. get to go see how she's doing this afternoon and afterwards i think her and i will enjoy our 3rd (yes, its only wednesday!) of the week.
