we have passed hundreds & hundreds . . . and hundreds!! of these signs.

- - -

we thought we would get up and leave early . . . not so much. we were on the road by 9:45am after this happened to my toe. amie doubled over laughing as i was trying to open the room door for her with both of us carrying way too much stuff on the way out. i assured her it would bleed - i was right.

so as far as sightseeing goes - besides those interstate 80 signs - it hasn't been too much. partly because we kinda want to get home, partly because molly sleeping is a good thing in the car and pulling off wakes her up, partly because  . . well . . we just can't decide where to go!! blah - sometimes we wonder if we're boring?!

we (i) thought it'd be fun to go find the 'bridges in madison county' - we tried and ended up at john wayne's birthplace : ) wow - we were seriously tourist looking taking pictures. welcome to small town iowa!!

speaking of iowa. she would not stop in davenport. just does not appreciate the place. 'what would we do?' she asked. 'where would we go?'

ahh, when are we going to be driving through davenport again!!!!

we called and left dad a message when we were in moline, il. - told him we were crossing some river. he called back to say it was the mississippi.

: )   well  . . . there really were no signs saying so . . .

even the park ranger lady at herbert hoover's historical site said it was easy to miss. it was a thrifty thing to show up 15 minutes before closing because we didn't have to pay the tour fees and got to see it all anyway. i have quite an appreciation for the late mrs. hoover - 3 children in a 2 room house that would fit in our living room!

molly's spot in the back. she's been a trooper.

- - -

here we have miles and miles of road with not that much to do - so its amie singing 'lady in red' into her cheesestick. she's alittle 'pitchy'

- - -

we've found way over half of the license plates from the 50 states. and noticed how everyone has gps and we have real paper maps everywhere. ( you can see one on the dash in the above picture)

'we're so old school' she said 'old school with our wireless internet & ipod playing!!'

- - -

and here's to missing home - this picture was in my mothers day/road trip care package. amie said it was ok to cry when i opened it - i kinda did . . .

- - -

we drove through the great salt flat desert this afternoon -

our names written in rocks in the salt.

we realized you couldn't see our names and us at the same time . . .

this is 'lion looking amie' - it was seriously very windy!!

- - -

we miss you sailor, jack, ben & daddy ~
