the ride home in itself was a memorable post.
amie missed the entire wedding - too sick to move.
we left her in the hotel room & came back for her when it was over. we snapped this shot of her while she was waiting for the guys to fix her a bed in the back. she wanted me to get her best side - i think we captured it well.
we followed an old white buick home. with jack searching the endless barren miles of kern county for an in n out.
we had amie's ipod with all of her 'great' songs ready to play. chad asked once if we could rewind one. yep brother - ya don't 'rewind' ipods.
i think my brother and new sister in law started a list of when-we're-parents-we-will-never-do and they filled in several blanks : )
one - don't let boys have sticks in the car. yes ben has his own real wood 2 foot long stick that has its place beside his carseat. & at one of our 27 stops today jack found his own.
two - letting kids play with plastic dry cleaning bags = bad idea
three - pacifiers. you can't win with 'em & you can't win without 'em. benny had a meltdown right before we took off for home. lisa asked if ben had a fuff. (we realized today that calling pacifiers 'fuffs' makes no sense & nobody else calls them that!!) nope ben has never had a pacifier and when he chooses to temporally disown his blankies can be nearly inconsolable. jack on the other hand . . . we had just packed up and had everyone loaded up when we realized we couldn't find his. they saw the downsides of both scenarios - ben crying & us unloading a good chunk of the car to find jacks!!
i would have posted all the banter back & forth had my high tech technology not died. the laptop's battery only lasted so long. but good times.
it got to the point where we just needed to get amie home & then we added rex to the sick list. he warned us all at the beginning of the day if he went down he wouldn't be nearly as gracious as amie. the last 50+ miles were a rough go for him. we'll see how tonight goes . . . .

this is my favorite wedding picture of the day - from the maybe 4 that there were to choose from.
somehow - go figure - in spite of our predawn start we weren't there in time. sailor and i walked in after the bride. i was alittle rushed and that made me alittle warm. i seriously wondered why i hadn't pulled up my hair.
but there we were - 2 pews behind my aunt & uncle who sat on the front row. i was holding molly and feeding her and trying to console one sad child and keep another rowdy one quiet while rex had already left with rowdy #1. so trying for pictures one handed in the midst of it all left us with slim pickins'
but i like this one. i like the 2 of them sitting shoulder to shoulder - it makes me think they're probably holding hands. i like them looking at their son. i like the bride and groom in the background. i like them leaned into each other lighting the candle - saying we're choosing to become one. i like the pearls around her neck - i'm deciding that most times she wears pearls - maybe when i grow up i will too. i like his gray hair. its a romantic picture. really in its own beautiful way it was a romantic wedding. the best parts - the kiss & how excited they were to leave . . .
there you go - enough commentary : )

everyone's in bed. our little girls are sleeping in our room tonight since we've made theirs into a hotel room for our house guests. rex has been asleep since we got home - hopefully he'll stay that way.
enjoy sunday. enjoy rest.
