you know if you google a calendar list of events for november you get this whole list that tells you things like ....
yesterday was micky mouse's birthday
and
tomorrow is world hello day (whatever that means)
there is split pea soup week
and
osteopathic medicine week
it's real jewelry month
and
international drum month
there's a men make dinner day & a chicken lady day
there's deviled egg day & buy nothing day (a boycott of sorts to black friday, i guess)
it's flu awareness month & georgia pecan month
and no, i'm not making any of this up - google, baby google : )
i've never been a big promoter of things on this blog ... well save my kids, my Jesus, rex ...
but our world has had a nice shake up lately - where we ask ourselves what are we doing? why are we doing? what are we doing about it?
in a word .....
adoption.
but i never really stick with just a word : ) so lets keep going .....
a while back we went to a concert - rex just thought it was a concert : ) i knew it was a fundraiser and ever since we can not get away from the topic.
seriously - every other anything we hear or read or see is about adoption.
james 1:27
'religion that is pure & undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained from the world.'
psalms 10:14
' .... You have been a helper of the orphan.'
isaiah 1:17
'learn to do good - seek justice - reprove the ruthless - defend the orphan - plead for the widow.'
we've heard more and more that while adoption isn't for everyone it should be for more people than they think. it's not just a last resort for infertility. the fly overseas to some 3rd world country & bring a child home might not be for everyone .... but could it be .... for more than think ....
and if not, my goodness there are countless ways and opportunities to care for orphans.
adoption is pretty close to the heart of God we're learning and slowly its growing in our hearts too.
we've been to some meetings, filled out forms, made phone calls. its an incredible process that we don't even know the half of yet. its big & scary & unknown. its crazy & wild & costly.
and we're not exactly sure what it will look like for our family ....
is 5 the final number, probably not.
does that mean we're flying overseas next week, probably not.
agencies, homestudies, I-600a's, profiles, dossiers, domestic, inter-country, birth moms, children in waiting ..... we had no idea what any of that meant let alone how to even pronounce some of the words : )
but we're learning.
adoption is a beautiful thing - truly beautiful. and we've only discovered the tip of the iceberg.
i will not leave you as orphans; i will come to you is a blog of a friend that's worth the read - i think their story is just beginning.
big adoption series is another fascinating story from a blogger i've never met.
cryoftheorphan has a video called answer the cry that would be 60 minutes of time worth taking to watch.
november is national adoption month.
we want to be open. we want to do what's right. we want to be faithful. we want to be like Jesus.

i'm feeling outnumbered here tonight .... there's a bachelor party happening out in the shop. my job has been broiling french bread, finding steak knives & making sure little boys have coats and beanies. jacky just came in to tell me he'd never been to a dinner like this before & he was having a good time.
molly asked yesterday 'what a did a bachelor party mean?' the girls are not here : ) though they need to be collected and brought home soon.
it's a stormy windy night - i'm off to get my girlies while the guys party on.
