We ate dinner together tonight - brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes & 'burgers. Not everyone ate everything, lest you think our kids are amazing.
Well they are amazing - they just aren't huge fans of brussel sprouts ... expect Regan, who kept eating them.
They also have a good dad. Where I was thinking we'd just be around & cleaning up & getting ready for tomorrow - he was thinking of Sailor and how she's having the time of her life & not that we can keep up with that here, we should at least be able to do more than dishes.
He suggested grandma's house to swim - it was 105 today.
Or the water park.
Or frozen yogurt.
Or the Bass Pro Shop.
Or Buy Rite - his favorite store in the whole town.
I picked Buy-Rite .... because I love him, of course.
And because I needed an outfit for a party coming up.
: )
We left dinner on the table & told the kids to find shoes. We even drove the hoop-dee - Rex's new favorite van to drive to work.
One, because we're down a child & we all fit.
Two, because it only seemed fitting seeing as we were going to Buy-Rite and all.
We brought the stroller so Chad wouldn't have to ride in the creepy carts. Here you can see that Horton (who's a little washed out in the setting sun light & completely beside himself to be wearing ruffle dress panties in public) Beary & her new friend of the day - the pink monkey were with us. They all came along, but stayed in the hoop-dee.
I found the perfect dress. It was awful & ugly & bright blue & velour & had lace & fake pearls. It screamed funky formal. It also had arm holes in size 6x & a broken zipper.
Regan found every awful purse there was. Jack found cheap plastic guns. Ben found a stuffed bear dressed in camo. Molly found unicorns .....
yes that's rex & i in the reflection of the mirror. my outfit was perfectly appropriate :) |
The moral of the story is live a little, don't care about wearing your running shorts [what if we see anyone!?? we did] & take your kids out, leave ridiculously dressed stuffed bears in the store. They will eventually get over it : )
And then when you say sure when they ask you if they can open up the legos they will smile.
And you will smile.
You will still have to clean up dinner. But while you're cleaning up you get to watch this .....
They played for hours. And because it's summer they got their own have the time of their life tonight too.
The closer it got to mid-night the closer they got to turning into pumpkins : ) so the picked & waited on the couch for 9 minutes so they could officially say they stayed up 'all night'.
Ben said 'mom i'm glad we put the bear back and got the legos - this is a gyate [great] night.'
So now all that 'getting ready for tomorrow' needs to be done.
They promised they'd sleep in .....

i've heard sleep-in promises myself... i hope that works better at your house than it has at mine. ;) and yet we continue "risking" it. haha. because sometimes to "holdfast" you gotta stay up late with 'em.
you have given me some warm, cozy fuzzies with my morning coffee,
sweet post. thank you.
Brussels Sprouts...what kind of mom actually makes those for her children. ;) That is actually the only vegetable I don't like. Oh..and I'm not a huge fan of lima beans on their own....in something they are okay.
So I don't know what Buy-Rite is..I didn't catch the sarcasm of it being your husband's favorite store and I figured it was some sort of Best-Buy-ish kind of place until I saw the beautiful pink unicorn. I think my husband would love that store too...just like he loves Salvation Army. *cough* :)
This was a great reminder post and encouraging. It's nice to see someone else leave the dishes until midnight...cause that just has to happen sometimes. ;)
Happy Tuesday to you!
